Career at UB
2009-10: Finished with a 17-13 overall record in singles, including a 6-7 record in the tournament play. Went 14-7 in doubles as she paired up with senior Diana Toia. Popescu went 4-1 in the MAC at third singles for the Bulls. Defeated Ashley Frey of Toledo in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the MAC Championship.
2008-09: Named to All-MAC Second Team. Finished with a 16-8 overall record and was 14-4 in dual meet play as the number two singles player. Was 5-2 in MAC matches at second singles. Advanced to the semifinals in doubles with Denise Harijanto at the ITA Regionals, the furthest ever for a UB duo. Was named the fifth best doubles team in the East by the ITA.
2007-08: Finished the season 27-5 in singles play and 20-9 in doubles, being named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year. Teamed with Denise Harojanto at first doubles, going 6-2 in MAC play. Had victories at third singles in all three of UB’s victories at the MAC Tournament, including the MAC Championship victory against Western Michigan. Won her first 11 singles matches as a collegiate athlete before falling in the finals of the Can-Am Tournament. Finished the fall 11-1 in singles and 6-2 in doubles. Won the Army Invitational and took singles and doubles titles at the Bucknell Invitational. Paired up with Denise Harijanto and competed at the ITA Regionals.
Prior to UB
Was a first place finisher at the 2007 Eastern Collegiate Tournament. Was named vice champion of Romania.

Born June 20, 1988. Daughter of Catalin and Mariana Popescu. Has one brother (Octavian). Favorite athlete is Marat Safin. Favorite TV show is The Hills. Greatest athletic influence is Pete Sampras. Majoring in communication.
