Fall 2011: Led team with a 6-2 doubles record in the fall and was 7-3 in singles play. Won the B singles crown at the Cornell Invitational with a 4-0 record. Won the C doubles title at the Princeton Invitational with Ivan Vereshchaga, finishing 3-0. Won the G singles title at the UB Invitational.
2010-11: Was 8-8 in singles and 11-13 in doubles. Saw action at fifth and sixth singles and combined with Marcelo Mazzetto at second doubles to finish 8-6 (3-2 in the MAC). Moved into the starting lineup in April and won four of his final five singles matches. Paired with Wojciech Starakiewicz for a fourth-place A doubles finish at the Cornell Invitational. Had singles wins against Lehigh and Lafayette opponents at the Lehigh Invitational.
High school: Lettered four seasons and captained two years at McKinney Boyd High School for coaches Kristen Crawford and Dennis Dougherty. Compiled a record of 10-2 in singles and 9-3 in doubles play during his senior season. First freshman to reach first singles in school history, playing at that spot all four seasons, earning three team Most Valuable Player awards and playing in the regional tournament four seasons. Ranked 19th in the state of Texas. Reached the doubles finals and singles semifinals at the San Antonio Super Championship in 2009. Also won age group titles in 2008 Super Championship competitions in Dallas and Austin and reached the finals of the USTA’s National Open in Frisco, TX in 2007.
Personal: Born July 3, 1992. Son of Mike and Amy Zappia. Has one brother (Tyler). Favorite food is wings. Enjoys rap and rock music. Majoring in mechanical engineering.
