Bulls Face Off Against Ohio State in NCAA Tournament

BUFFALO, NY – The Mid-American Conference Champion University at Buffalo women's tennis team will travel to Columbus, Ohio to face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday, May 2 at 1pm. The winner will advance to Saturday's Round of 32 against either Notre Dame or UIC.
This is the second time the Bulls and Buckeyes are squaring off in the NCAA Tournament, with the last time coming in the 2017 NCAA Tournament first round.
The Bulls enter Friday's match with a 20-7 overall record, tying the single-season program record for the second straight year. Buffalo has dominated through singles action, as the Bulls are 109-43 in singles. UB has presented a balanced attack in singles action with six players recording double-digit win totals on the season, led by a freshmen duo of Blanca Berges and Liv Roestel who have 18 wins each. All-MAC First Team selection Esmee Andresen and sophomore Julia Laspro have 17 wins each while Maria Glowacka (16) and MAC Tournament MVP Jagmeet Kaur (14) have also reached double digit wins. In doubles play, the Bulls have been led by Berges and Roestel who own a team-best 10 doubles victories when paired together.
Ohio State is 21-3 and is the overall #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament after winning the fourth Big Ten Tournament title in program history. This is the fifth year in a row, and the seventh time overall, the Buckeyes earned a Top 16 seed and will serve as hosts of the first and second rounds. The Buckeyes are led by Lucinda Perry who is ranked ninth in the nation in singles by the ITA with a 30-7 overall record. She is joined in the Top 100 singles national rankings by Teah Chavez (22) and Sydni Ratliff (75). In doubles play, the team of Perry and Chavez boast a No. 22 national ranking. Chavez and Perry were both unanimous selections to the All-Big Ten First Team, with the latter being just the 12th Buckeye to earn multiple first team all-conference honors in her career.
Matches are set to be played outside at the Auer Tennis Complex. In the event of inclement weather, play will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Admission and parking will be free for all NCAA matches in Columbus.
Fans unable to attend the match can follow it from home. There will be live scoring of all matches during the weekend as well as live video at both outdoor and indoor venues depending on weather. All links can be found at the Tournament Central page.
