BUFFALO, NY – The defending Mid-American Conference champion University at Buffalo women's soccer team, led by 10th year head coach Shawn Burke, announced their 2023 fall schedule on Wednesday.
The schedule is highlighted by a rematch with the Pittsburgh Panthers in the season opener under the lights at UB Stadium at 7pm. The Bulls faced Pitt in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
"We are constantly looking to raise the profile of our program and this year's schedule does just that," said Burke. "We will test ourselves early with two Power 5 NCAA Tournament participants and learn real quick what this group is capable of."
After hosting the Panthers in the home opener, the Bulls will hit the road for a four-game stretch, beginning with a contest at Big Ten opponent Ohio State on August 20 at 12pm. The Bulls will then travel to Hamilton, NY for a tilt with Colgate on August 24 at 4:30pm. The road trip will conclude with a pair of Big 4 matches, beginning on August 31st as they Bulls take on crosstown rival Canisius at 7pm before taking on Niagara on September 3rd at 12pm.
Buffalo will then return home to host Cornell on September 10 at 1pm before concluding non-conference play with a tilt at UConn on September 16 at 7pm.
The Bulls will open Mid-American Conference play on September 21st at Akron at 7pm before returning to UB Stadium to take on Ohio on September 24th at 1pm and will host Miami (OH) on September 28th for a showdown under the lights at 6pm.
UB will open the month of October with a pair of road games, beginning on October 1st at Eastern Michigan at 1pm before traveling to Mount Pleasant on October 5th for a contest against the Central Michigan Chippewas at 7pm.
The Bulls will then return home for a big game against Ball State, a rematch of last year's MAC Championship game, at 1pm before traveling to DeKalb for a clash with the Northern Illinois Huskies on October 12th at 1pm.
Three of UB's last four games will be inside the friendly confines of UB Stadium as they Bulls host Bowling Green on October 15th at 1pm before welcoming Toledo to town for a 6pm showdown on October 19th. Buffalo will travel to Western Michigan on October 22nd for a 1pm tilt before returning home to take on Kent State in the regular season finale on October 26th at 3pm.
The Mid-American Conference Tournament will begin with the quarterfinal round on Sunday, October 29th and will continue with the semifinals on Thursday, November 2nd and the championship match on Sunday, November 5th.
Buffalo is coming off a historic year in which the Bulls won the MAC regular season and tournament titles, accomplishing that feat for just the second time in program history. The Bulls defeated Ball State 2-0 in the MAC Championship game at UB Stadium to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. They set a new program record with a 17-game unbeaten streak, tied the program record for shutouts with 14 and led the nation in goals against average. Individually, Emily Kelly was named MAC Goalkeeper of the Year and earned Second Team All-American status, Hannah Callaghan was named a Third Team All-American and earned Second Team All-MAC honors, Ellie Simmons was named MAC Defender of the Year and Shawn Burke was named MAC Coach of the Year.
