BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's soccer head coach Shawn Burke announced the signing of Michigan State transfer Kelly Severini on Tuesday.
"Kelly is going to have an immediate impact in our midfield," said Burke. "Her presence, leadership and experience will help us get back to the postseason and competing for a championship."
Severini, a 5-6 midfielder from Union, NJ, comes to Buffalo from Michigan State where she appeared in 29 games for the Spartans. Last season she appeared in 12 games, while earning four starts, recording a goal and an assist to help lead the Spartans to a historic season with a 14-5-3 record, highlighted by a second-consecutive Big Ten title and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Third Round.
She appeared in 17 games during her inaugural season in East Lansing, contributing to 10 shutouts. Individual highlights from that season included a season-high 49 minutes of action at Cincinnati, recording her first point as a Spartan with an assist against Binghamton and tallying 20 minutes off the bench at Ohio State, clinching the B1G regular season title.
Before Michigan State, Severini played her freshman season at Hartford where she was named First Team All-Conference and received United Soccer Coaches All-Region recognition while also earning a spot on the America East All-Rookie team. She started in all 16 games, helping guide her team to an 8-4-4- finish while totaling four goals, including two game-winners, and three assists for 11 points.
Prior to collegiate action, Severini was a four-year letterwinner at Union High School where she was a two-time First Team All-Conference and All-County selection. She was a UCGSA All Star Top-16 as a senior and played for the NJ Stallions, ranked in the top-ten among clubs in New Jersey.
