BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's soccer graduate student Marcy Barberic has been named to the watch list for the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy, as announced by United Soccer Coaches today.
The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the nation's National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.
Barberic is the first Bull to be named to the watch list since fellow UB All-American Jackie Hall in 2015. She is also lone representative of the Mid-American Conference on the list.
Despite facing an unprecedented, league-only 2020 spring championship season, the Grand Island, NY native still managed to make a name for herself at a national level on the pitch for the Bulls as she became the first player in school history to be named Second Team All-American. The MAC Offensive Player of the Year also earned All-Midwest region honors for the second time after being named to the second team in 2019. Barberic led the Bulls offense with nine goals and an assist on a team-best 39 shots while starting all eight games for UB this season. She led the nation in shots on goal per game (2.88) while also leading the MAC and ranking third in the nation in goals per game (1.2) and second in shots per game (4.88). She also ranked in the top 40 nationally in points per game (2.38), total goals (9), game-winning goals (3) and total points (19). Barberic is now ninth in program history in career goals (23) and total points (59).
Fifteen players become Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30 following completion of Division I All-America voting following the fall season. Then on Dec. 8, the top three players from a final round of voting are the 2021 finalists. The 2021 winner is revealed on Jan. 7, 2022, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.
