Bulls Fall Just Short At Toledo, 4-3

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team won three of the six singles contests on Friday afternoon, but the Bulls came up short, losing to the host Toledo Rockets, 4-3. It was the seventh time this season that UB has played to a 4-3 decision.
The Rockets took the early lead with a pair of victories in doubles and went ahead 2-0 in the match with a win at second singles. The only other singles match to go straight sets was at first singles as junior Pia Schwarz won 7-5, 7-5.
The following four singles matches all went three sets. Toledo would win at fourth singles to take a 3-1 lead in the match, but then junior Hsin-Yuan Shih won at third singles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 to pull within 3-2.
Toledo went on to clinch the match with a victory at fifth singles and the Bulls got the final win at sixth singles from freshman Mariana Carvajal Torres, who won 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Bulls will continue tomorrow when they face Northern Illinois in a neutral site match at 1pm.
