
Bulls Conclude Weekend Against Northern Illinois

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team concluded their weekend with a neutral site match against Northern Illinois and for the second straight day the Bulls came up just short, 4-3.
The Huskies took the early lead with wins at first and second doubles to go ahead 1-0 in the match. Wins at first and second singles gave Northern Illinois a 3-0 lead, but then Bulls began to battle back.
Sophomore Ambre Amat came away with a 6-1, 7-6 (6) win at fourth singles to get the Bulls on the board and then junior Hsin-Yuan Shih won at third singles, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Azra Deniz Comlek won at fifth singles 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 which would tie the match up at 3-3, leaving it to sixth singles to decide the match.
Freshman Mariana Carvajal Torres won her opening set at sixth singles, 6-2, but she then lost the second set in a tiebreaker to Julliia Dmitrieva. In the third set, Dmitrieva won 6-0, clinching the match for the Huskies.
It was the fourth straight match that Buffalo has lost by a 4-3 margin. UB will close out the regular season next weekend with a pair of matches beginning on Friday afternoon when Buffalo hosts Miami (OH).
