Multiple Big Ten Victories Highlight Action At Farnsworth Ivy-Plus

PRINCETON, NJ – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team had another solid weekend at the Farnsworth Ivy-Plus at Princeton, highlighted by the doubles performance of Valdemar Holm and Vilhelm Fridell, who won a pair of matches against Big Ten competition.
The duo played all three of their matches against opponents from the Big Ten in the Forbes Doubles Flight. On Friday, they opened the tournament with an 8-6 win over William Piekarsky and Vikash Singh of Indiana. They then defeated Carson Gates and Anthony Pero from Michigan State, 8-4, to qualify for the finals where they met up with Michigan's Harrison Brown and Kristofer Silmar on Sunday morning where they fell just short, 8-5.
Senior Hao Sheng Koay played in the Cordish Singles Draw where he won his opening match 6-3, 6-4 against Juan Jose Bianchi of SMU. Following a loss to Singh from Indiana, Koay moved into the back draws where he defeated Niraj Komatineni of Brown, 6-2, 7-6 (5). In the final match of the weekend, he faced Robby Shymansky of Yale, falling 6-4, 6-1.
Holm took part in the Pagoda Singles Flight where he came out with a first round victory over Denton Ho of Cornell, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5. Following a second round defeat, Holm came away with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Mason Meier of Tennessee in the back draw and then he completed the weekend against Constantin Zoske of Harvard, winning his final match 7-6, 6-3.
The Bulls will continue fall play next weekend at the Binghamton Invitational.
