UB Men's Tennis Wins Six Matches on Day One of Dartmouth Fall Invitational

HANOVER, NH - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York men's tennis team traveled to Dartmouth Fall Invitational after battling some of the nation's top talent at the ITA All-American Tournament earlier this week. The Bulls impressed overall by winning six of their seven singles matches during the first day of the Dartmouth Fall Invitational. Singles play continues on Saturday with doubles matches beginning at the three-day event.
In Singles 1 play Pablo Alvarez won in three sets over Brown's Yeoh. After winning the first set 6-4, Alvarez dropped the second set 6-3 before winning the rubber match 6-2. As a result, Alvarez will face Dartmouth's Flienger on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Amar Hromic continued the winning ways for the Bulls with a two-set victory. His narrow 7-6 victory in set one was the closest his opponent got to winning. In set two he cruised to a more comfortable 6-3 win. On Saturday at 2:30 p.m., Hromic will face off against Tarwid of Brown who won against his opponent, 7-5, 6-3.
Ethan Nittolo advanced to the second round of the Singles 3 bracket in three sets. After winning the first set 6-4, he dropped the second set by an identical score. Set three saw the Flushing, NY native battle back in dominating fashion to win 6-0. Just like his teammates, Nittolo's singles play continues on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when he faces Mitak from Brown.
Sergio Arevalillo made quick work in his first match of the invitational winning in straight sets, 7-5,6-4. He returns to the court in singles play on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Brown's Tan.
The Bulls played in tight matches in both Singles 5 and 6 play. Akhil Mehta fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 in Singles 5. Mehta will play in the loser's bracket on Saturday against Dartmouth's Haig at 4:00 p.m. Miller forced his match to three sets by winning the second set after dropping the opening set. He then won the third set 7-6 to complete the three-set comback He heads to the second round of the Singles 6 bracket with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 result. His second round opponent is Midgley of Dartmouth who won in straight, 6-4, 6-4, sets in the first round. Hajdu Andersson was also victorious in Singles 6 with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 win against Army's Best. Andersson's singles match play continues on Saturday at 4 p.m. when he takes on Wu from Williams.
As mentioned above, the Bulls' doubles play action begins on Saturday. Hromic/Arevalillo play on Saturday at 9:00 a.m against Yale's duo of Svenning/Hagermoser. Miller/Mehta face Fairfield's Orban/Rodgers at 9am in Doubles 2 play. Despite their outcome in round one doubles play, both duos will play another match at 11:30 am before they continue their respective singles match play later in the afternoon.
Overall, day one was a success for the seven-member Bulls team. Winning six of seven singles matches is no small feat and the Bulls' stamina and skill will both be tested during Day 2 of the Dartmouth Fall Invitational.
