
Starakiewicz Wins Singles Title at Cornell Invitational

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo's Wojciech Starakiewicz won the A-1 singles title as play wrapped up on Sunday at the Cornell Invitational held at the Reis Tennis Center.
Starakiewicz defeated Cornell's Max Haskin, 6-2, 6-4, to finish the tournament with a 4-0 record. The number one seed in the top flight, Starakiewicz did not drop a set in the three-day competition.
Vusa Hove won the third-place match in the A-2 singles flight. Hove needed three sets to down Cornell's Chris Song, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2. Hove, seeded fourth in the bracket, finished the tournament with three victories.
Kristof Custers won the A-2 consolation bracket as he earned a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Duquesne's Steve Herchko. After dropping his opening match to Song on Friday, Custers rolled through the consolation bracket with three victories.
Jason Shkodnik lost his consolation final match in the B flight. The freshman fell in a tight 7-6, 6-4 decision to Duquesne's Matt Smith.
Custers and Shkodnik won the B doubles consolation final with an 8-1 victory over Manuel Kaire and Guillermo Paiz of Fairleight Dickinson.The duo went 2-1 in the flight.
The Bulls will look to defend their Mid-American Conference regular season title when dual meet competition begins this winter.
