BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team claimed both Mid-American Conference weekly honors, the league office announced on Monday. Junior Theodoros Mitsakos earned MAC Singles Player of the Week and the doubles pairing of Daniils Snaiders and Cheng Tang were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week.
It is the first weekly singles honor Mitsakos, the second straight for Snaiders/Tang and the 10th overall for the Bulls this season.
Mitsakos came up big for the Bulls this weekend, going 2-0 in his matches at the first position to lead the Bulls to a weekend sweep. On Thursday, he won 6-3, 6-1 at first singles to help power the Bulls to a decisive 6-1 win at Northern Illinois. He followed that up with another straight sets victory on Sunday, to help lead UB to a 5-2 win at UIC and clinch the regular season title for the first time since 2017. Mitsakos now has 15 wins on the season.
Tang and Sniaders continued their stellar play this weekend as they won 6-1 at first doubles to clinch the doubles point in the 5-2 victory at UIC. With the win, the duo improves to 7-2 on the year.
Up next, Buffalo will return home to close out the regular season as they host Toledo on Saturday, April 12 on Senior Day at Miller Tennis Center at 1pm.
