BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's tennis fifth year Simon Wibler has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of Week, as announced by the league on Thursday.
Wibler, a business administration major, had a solid weekend for the Bulls, going a perfect 4-0 in his matches to lead Buffalo to a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. In singles action, Wibler went 2-0 in the third position with wins over Le Moyne and Niagara. He also teamed with Finn Macnamara to earn a pair of doubles victories, a hard-fought 7-6 win over Le Moyne at first doubles and a 6-2 win at second doubles against Niagara. He is now 12-10 on the year in singles play and 13-5 when paired with Macnamara in doubles action.
The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
Wibler and the Bulls return to action on Friday, March 3 with a 1pm match at Princeton. They then return home to host Quinnipiac at 1pm on Sunday at Miller Tennis Center.
