BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo men's basketball Head Coach Jim Whitesell announced the Bulls' 2022-23 non-conference schedule on Thursday.
"We will play five programs that played in post season tournaments last season; including three teams that went to the NCAA Tournament, that's the most in the MAC," said Head Coach Jim Whitesell. "We have a very challenging non-conference schedule that will get us where we want to be when we start conference play in January."
Buffalo will open with an exhibition game against one of the top D-II programs in the nation as the Bulls welcome Daemen on Oct. 30 as part of a doubleheader with women's program. UB will then open the regular season at home against Colgate. The Raiders fell to No. 14 Wisconsin in last year's NCAA Tournament, 67-60. Colgate has won back-to-back Patriot League titles. James Madison will visit Alumni Arena on Nov. 12 for a Saturday matinee.
The Bulls will then hit the road as they'll play UConn in the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. on Nov. 15. The Huskies fell to the New Mexico State Aggies in last year's NCAA Tournament in Buffalo. From Connecticut, the team will fly south to St. Thomas for the 2022 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Tournament. In game one, the Bulls will face off against Drake on Nov. 18. Drake finished their 2021-22 campaign with a 25-11 overall record and came in at No. 22 in the NCAA Preseason Top-25 Mid-Major Power Rankings. In game two, UB will play either Howard or Wyoming on Nov. 19 or 20. The final game of the tournament will be on Nov. 21.
UB will then return home for two games against Big 4 rivals. On Sunday, Nov. 27 they host Canisius at 2:30 p.m. and will then have the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Dec. 3 at 2:30 p.m. To close the homestand, the Bulls will play St. John Fisher on Dec. 6.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Bulls play Tulane in Atlanta, Ga. for the Holiday Hoopsgiving in State Farm Arena. UB will then travel back to Morgantown, W.V. to play the Mountaineers on Dec. 18. In their final non-conference home game, the Bulls will play SUNY Canton on Dec. 21. To close out their non-conference schedule, the Bulls will travel to East Lansing, Mich. to play the Michigan State Spartans on Dec. 30. That game will tip off at 6 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
Two of UB's conference games have been flexed to Friday nights. They will play Toledo on Jan. 20 at 8:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. The following Friday at Kent State they will play at 9 p.m. on ESPNU. More TV selections will be released at a later date.
