Bulls Fall to Toledo; Clinch Spot in MAC Tournament

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University at Buffalo men's basketball program (17-14, 7-11 MAC) lost their regular season finale to the hands of the Toledo Rockets (17-14, 11-7 MAC) on Friday evening, 99-78. Despite the loss, the Bulls punched their ticket to the Mid-American Conference Tournament as the Ball State Cardinals defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas. This will be Buffalo's first MAC Tournament appearance since the 2022-23 season. The Bulls will enter as the 7-seed and face the 2-seed Akron Zips at approximately 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 12th.
Ryan Sabol was a road warrior as he played every second of the game, tallying 26 points including six three-pointers. In doing so, he now holds the single season three-point record in program history passing Zach Filzen's 2010-11 season. Sabol is up to 116 threes this season and 257 in his career. On the night, he also added five rebounds and a pair of assists.
Angelo Brizzi continued his dominance as he scored 21 points with four boards, two assists and two steals. Tim Oboh scored 15 points as he was 7-of-11 from the field. He snatched five rebounds with a block. He finished the conference regular season with 32 blocks. Last season he had just six.
Noah Batchelor had a game-high seven rebounds while adding five points and two assists.
The Bulls had an exceptional night from the field as they shot 54.4% (31-of-57), but it was out shined by the Rockets' 60.3% (38-of-63).
Toledo got off to a hot start as they led 7-2 at the 16:49 mark. After starting the game 1-of-5 from the field, the Bulls calmed down and got back in the game. Buffalo settled in as they went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-13 lead with under 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Leading up to and during their run, they were 7-of-8 from the floor. Their lead was brief as Toledo went on a 9-2 run and took a 22-19 lead. Toledo's lead reach as much as nine points in the final minutes of the half, but They chipped away. Oboh scored the final four points for the Bulls including a vicious dunk just before the horn to cut Toledo's lead to 37-33.
Stops were hard to come by in the second half as the Rockets shot 74.2% (23-of-31) and the Bulls were 64.0% (16-of-25) from the field. Out of the locker room, Buffalo cut Toledo's lead down to 37-36 following a Brizzi three. The Bulls kept up with the Rockets, but then Toledo pulled away in the final eight minutes.
