2/7/2026 7:16:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MOBILE, Ala. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball program (14-10, 4-7 MAC) lost their final non-conference game of the regular season on Saturday to the hands of the South Alabama Jaguars (17-7, 6-4 SBC), 81-69.
Angelo Brizzi led the Bulls with 26 points as he went 8-for-17 from three-point range. The last Bull to make at least eight three-pointers was CJ Massinburg on Nov. 9, 2018, when he made nine.
Ryan Sabol finished with 23 points as he made six threes. Sabol passed Ronaldo Segu (2018-22, 1,115) for 19th in points scored in program history as he now has 1,133 points. With his six threes, he is now third all-time in made threes with 225 as he passed Calvin Cage (2002-06, 221) and Zach Filzen (2009-12, 222). Another milestone Sabol reached was passing Mike Martinho's 1997-98 82 made threes for 10th most made threes in a single season.
Noah Batchelor scored 10 points to go with six rebounds as Derrick Talton Jr. had a game-high 10 assists.
Buffalo struggled to shoot against the Jaguars' stout zone defense as they were 24-of-63 (38.1%) from the field. South Alabama was 28-of-53 (52.8%) from the floor.
The Bulls took an early 3-0 lead off a Brizzi three, but that would be their lone lead of the contest. Buffalo's slow start resulted in the Jaguars to go on a 25-4 run as the led 25-7 with 10:21 to go in the first half. The Bulls tried to claw their way back into the game, but trailed at the half, 40-24.
Buffalo outscored the Jaguars in the second half, 45-41, in part due to the intensity of playing a press defense. At the half, the Bulls did not have any points off turnovers or second chance points. With the press, they managed to score 12 points off turnovers and eight second chance points. With South Alabama's zone defense, it was hard to penetrate in the paint as Buffalo finished with just 10 points in the paint, a season low. South Alabama's healthy lead was enough to get by Buffalo's comeback as they defended the Mitchell Center to take home the 81-69 win.
