LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls are coming off an 81-69 road loss to the South Alabama Jaguars as part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge on Saturday afternoon. In the loss, Angelo Brizzi led the Bulls in scoring with 26 points. Brizzi drilled eight threes, setting a career high. The last Bull to make at least eight three-pointers was CJ Massinburg on Nov. 9, 2018, when he made nine against #13 West Virginia. Ryan Sabol scored 23 points as he made six three-pointers while grabbing a game-high eight rebounds.
Buffalo's 17 made threes at South Alabama were the third-most makes in a game in program history, tying their performance at Texas A&M in 2017-18. The last time they made 17 threes was in 2018-19 when they made a program record 19 against Ohio. They set the program record in three-point attempts against the Jaguars with 46.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
• Ball State Head Coach Michael Lewis has spent his entire head coaching career with the Cardinals. He is in his fourth season with Ball State and holds a 57-60 (.487) overall record. Prior to his arrival at Ball State, Lewis spent 18 seasons as an assistant coach, including three at UCLA.
• The Cardinals were selected eighth in the 13-team league in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll. Last season, Ball State went 6-25 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
• The Cardinals spread the wealth on offense as Armoni Zeigler (13.0 ppg), Davion Hill (12.4 ppg) and Devon Barnes (8.6 ppg) lead the team in scoring. Zeigler leads the Cardinals with 5.1 rpg.
THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
• Ryan Sabol passed Ronaldo Segu (2018-22, 1,115) for 19th in points scored in program history as he now has 1,133 points. With his six threes, he is now third all-time in made threes with 225 as he passed Calvin Cage (2002-06, 221) and Zach Filzen (2009-12, 222). Another milestone Sabol reached was passing Mike Martinho's 1997-98 82 made threes for 10th most made threes in a single season.
• Ryan Sabol is the first Bull to record back-to-back 400-point seasons since Jeenathan Williams did so from 2020-22.
• Angelo Brizzi is three steals away from recording Buffalo's first 50-steal season since 2022-23 when Zid Powell finished with 53.
• The Bulls have been one of the best three-point shooting teams this season. On the season, Buffalo has 18 games with a three-point percentage of at least .370, the most in Division I hoops. Belmont, Incarnate Word and Sacred Heart have done so 17 times. The last time Buffalo had 18 such games was in 2017-18. With one more game, they'd match their 2010-11 total of 19 games shooting 37.0% or better from three.
• Dating back to 2004-05 on available records, this is the first time the Bulls have had six 30-point performances in a single season as Daniel Freitag has done so four times as Ryan Sabol has done it twice this season. The 2012-13 squad finished with five such performances. Over the last three previous seasons, Buffalo only had four 30-point performances.
• Ezra McKenna surpassed the 1,700-point mark in his career at South Alabama after scoring four points. He is now up to 1,703 points.
• UB has made 236 three-pointers so far this season. 37.2% of their points have come from three-point range, the top mark in the MAC ahead of Akron's 36.5%.
• UB has recorded 28 20-point performances this season. Last year they finished with just 16 such games.
• Daniel Freitag and Ryan Sabol are top-5 in scoring in the MAC on the season. The former is second with 20.0 ppg as the latter is fifth with 18.2 ppg.
• Ryan Sabol recorded his 17th game of his career with five or more three-pointers in a single game against South Alabama on Saturday. He has 40 games with at least three three-pointers in his time in the blue and white.
