BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt has announced a contract extension for Head Men's Basketball Coach George Halcovage III, extending his contract through the 2029-30 season.
"Our men's basketball program under George Halcovage III's leadership, has seen consistent improvement during his tenure here at UB," said Alnutt. "Not only are we competitive on the court, our student-athletes are performing in the classroom at a record level. I am pleased with the trajectory of our program and I look forward to supporting and working with George as we compete for Mid-American Conference championships for many years to come."
Halcovage guided the Bulls to a 17-win season in 2025-26 with a trip to the MAC Tournament. Their 17 wins were the most since the 2021-22 season. The Bulls started the season with an 8-0 record for just the second time in the program's modern era since 1991. They also received AP Top-25 votes in back-to-back weeks for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Over the last two seasons, he's guided the program to three All-MAC honors. Off the court the program earned six Academic All-MAC honors with four consecutive semesters with at least a 3.0 GPA. This includes a program record 3.441 GPA from the fall 2024 semester.
"I'm grateful to President Tripathi and Mark Alnutt for their belief in our vision and their continued support of Buffalo Basketball," stated Halcovage. "Lizzy, Collin, and I are proud to call Buffalo home, and we're thankful for the way this community has embraced our family. We're excited to continue building a championship-caliber program that represents the University at Buffalo and Western New York with pride. We know our best days are still ahead and are committed to making Buffalo Basketball a source of pride for our student-athletes, alumni, fans, and the entire Buffalo community for years to come!"
Halcovage is beginning his fourth season as head coach this upcoming season.
