
Bulls Sweep Two Matches To Open Season

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened the 2021 fall campaign on Friday with a pair of 7-0 sweeps, defeating Niagara and St. Bonaventure at the UB Tennis Courts.
In the first match against the Purple Eagles, the Bulls won all three doubles contests. Azra Deniz Comlek and Hsin-Yuan Shih won easily at second doubles, 6-1, and Ambre Amat and Lolina Schietekat Sedas won at third doubles, 6-2. Pia Schwarz and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou won 6-4 at first doubles.
UB won all six singles matches in straight sets. Amat and Gabriella Akopyan dropped just one game as they won at fifth and fourth singles, respectively. Shih won 6-1, 6-1 at second singles while Comlek picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles, and Schwarz won by the same score at first singles. Antoniou-Karademitrou won 6-4, 6-4 at sixth singles.
In the nightcap against St. Bonaventure, Comlek and Shih won 6-1 at first doubles, while Amat and Schietekat Sedas won at third doubles, 6-2. Schwarz and Antoniou-Karademitrou won 6-4.
Shih played her first match at first singles and won 6-3, 6-0, while Comlek won 6-2, 6-2 at two. Akopyan added a 6-1, 6-3 victory at third.
Amat swept her opponent at fourth singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win and Schietekat Sedas won at fifth singles 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Mariana Carvajal Torres dropped just two games with a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles.
