PRINCETON, NJ – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team sent a pair of players to the ITA Northeast Super Regionals as Pia Schwarz played in the singles draw, while Schwarz and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou represented the Bulls in doubles.
The Bulls played amongst some of the top players in the entire Northeast Region. First up on Friday was singles action as Schwarz was matched up with Iuliia Bryzgalova, a senior from the University at Pennsylvania, who was one of the top four seeds in the bracket. Bryzgalova, who plays first singles for the Quakers and was a quarterfinalist at the Oracle ITA Fall National Championship a year ago, took the contest against Schwarz, who was able ot take the second set off the senior to force a third. Bryzgalova ultimately took the contest 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
It was a quick turned around though for the senior as Schwarz was back Friday afternoon for doubles action with Antoniou-Karademitrou. They were matched up against Maxi Duncan and Iveta Daujotaite of Harvard. Doubles, which is usually a one set match in dual play, was a best of three sets match at the Super Regionals. The Crimson took the contest, 6-2, 6-3.
The Bulls will return to Western New York for more dual action next weekend when they host Binghamton and Mercyhurst on Saturday, October 23.
