BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team finished eighth in the Northeast Region, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced in its final regional polls. The eighth place finish is tied for the highest in school history which was achieved following the 2013-14 season.
The Bulls finished the year with an 11-8 record, playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in school history, and made it to the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals just one season after winning the entire tournament. UB's pre-league schedule included Dartmouth, who was ranked second in the region, and Cornell, which was ranked third. The Bulls also faced #5 Princeton. UB defeated regionally ranked opponents Yale and Brown, who were ranked ninth and 10th, respectively.
Buffalo placed two members on the All-MAC squad following the year as Sergio Arevalillo was named to the All-MAC First Team and Pablo Alvarez was named to the All-MAC Second Team. Alvarez was also awarded the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award.
"I am very proud of the fact that we have established ourselves as one of the top 10 programs in this prestigious region," said head coach Lee Nickell. "To be up there above some Ivy League teams really shows that our system is working despite the difference in resources. Our goal is to be Top 5 next year, and with our schedule and recruiting class we know we have a good chance."
