
Three Bulls Named To Academic All-MAC Team

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team had three members named to the 2016 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the conference office announced on Friday afternoon.
Senior Kenzie Koch is a senior Psychology major with a 3.369 GPA. Koch played in all 54 games for the Bulls this past season, hitting .230 on the year. She set career highs in at-bats, hits, home runs and RBIs during her senior season. She was the recipient of the IAB Ideal Bull Award given to given to a student-athlete who has demonstrated leadership beyond their own team to the Division and/or the campus, and whose character, actions, excellence and concern for other student-athletes make them strong ambassadors for the Division of Athletics and the University at Buffalo.
Fellow senior Lauren Gambone is a sociology major with a 3.278 GPA who saw action in 52 games this past season, starting 49 of them. She hit three doubles on the year and had four home runs, including a pair at SEC foe Arkansas. She finished fourth on the team in runs batted in with 20.
Sophomore Sarah Edwards, a sophomore sociology major with a 3.215 GPA, batted .278 during her second season as she played in 42 games, starting 32 of them. She had 27 hits, three doubles, two triples and four home runs as she finished third on the team in slugging percentage at .474. She drove in 15 runs over the course of the year.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Freshmen and first-year players aren't eligible.
