BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo seniors Sergio Arevalillo and Pablo Alvarez were named All-MAC for their play during the 2016 season. Arevalillo earned All-MAC First Team honors, while Alvarez was named to the All-MAC Second Team for the second year in a row.
Sergio Arevalillo went undefeated in MAC regular season singles play with a record of 7-0 at no. 1, no. 2 and no. 3 singles, while going 13-5 overall. He compiled a 12-5 (5-2 MAC) record at no. 3 doubles with Ethan Nittolo during the Spring season.
Alvarez posted a 13-5 record (4-3 MAC) record at no. 1 and no. 2 singles and a 11-4 record (5-1 MAC) mark at no. 1 and no. 2 doubles play alongside Amar Hromic. He also was given the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award, which is given annually to a senior men's tennis player in the MAC.
"I am proud of Sergio and Pablo for their All Mac First and Second Team selections," head coach Lee Nickell said reflecting on two of his players being selected to All-MAC honors. "For Sergio to be first-team All-MAC after playing sixth singles last year is a testament to his work ethic. Also, the fact that Pablo received the Sportsmanship award, while being one of our top players is truly and honor. He is the first sportsmanship award winner in my tenure here, and it truly speaks to his character to win that award while being a consistent competitor at the top of our lineup."
