BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team was recognized in the final regional rankings of the 2014 Spring season, earning the number eight spot in the highly competitive Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Junior Damien David earned an individual ranking as well, coming in as the 19th-best singles player in the region.
The team finished the 2014 season with a 12-8 overall record and enjoyed its first season in the ITA national rankings and wins over Cornell, Penn, and Northern Illinois en route to a shot at the Mid-American Conference tournament final. The Bulls return every starter from this year's team in 2015, including MAC Player of the Year David.
David, who is entering his final season with the Bulls, had a 3-1 MAC record in singles play and 10-9 overall as he led Buffalo to the MAC Tournament Championship match against Ball State. During the Spring dual season, in which the team achieved its first national ranking in program history, David was named the MAC Singles Player of the Week on April 9 and shared Doubles Team of the Week honors with Akhil Mehta on March 16.
This marks the second straight season that UB has an athlete ranked in the region, as 2013 senior Vusa Hove came in at number 20 in the Summer ranking.
