Ionescu Named MAC Singles Player of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - For the second straight week, the UB men's tennis team has earned weekly honors from the Mid-American Conference. Junior Sebastian Ionescu was named the MAC Singles Player of the Week on Wednesday, his first weekly award this season.
Ionescu fought through injury troubles to go 2-0 during the team's Spring break trip South. He started with a straight-set win at number two singles against Amar Hromic of #62 Central Florida on Wednesday. He would fight out a 7-5 first set before taking an easy second set 6-3.
Then on Saturday, he would win over Illinois State's Jakub Eisner in straight sets to lead the team to a 6-1 win. He would post identical set scores, beating Eisner 7-5, 6-3. This season, Ionescu is 6-3 at second singles and 12-8 overall for the 64th ranked Bulls.
He leads the team into the MAC season with a 9-4 overall record. The conference schedule begins at home Sunday, with UB hosting Toledo at 1 pm at Miller Tennis Center.
