UB Men's Tennis Dominates Singles Brackets, Four Headed to Finals

KALAMAZOO, MI – The State University of New York, Buffalo men's tennis team won nine matches Saturday on day two of the MAC Indoor Invitational hosted by Western Michigan.
Four Bulls will play for singles bracket titles Sunday. Senior Damien David will battle for the Flight A title, classmate Sebastian Ionescu the Flight B championship, junior Sergio Arevalillo the Flight D gold and freshman Noah Hajdu-Andersson the Flight E title. Additionally, Ionescu and junior Akhil Mehta will try to claim the Flight B doubles championship.
In the winners bracket, David defeated Binghamton's Sid Hazarika, 6-4, 6-2, Ionescu outlasted Northern Illinois' Simon Formont, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7, Arevalillo edged Vihar Shah of Binghamton, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 and Hajdu-Andersson defeated Pat Downs of Ball State, 7-5, 6-2. In Flight F action, redshirt sophomore Tony Miller upended Ball State's Patrick O'Connor, 6-1, 6-0, while in consolation action junior Pablo Alvarez secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Western Michigan's Andrew Cahn.
Ionescu and Mehta teamed together to edge a Ball State doubles team, 8-6, before earning a bid to the final with an 8-4 win over a Northern Illinois duo. In consolation play, sophomore Jonathan Hannestad joined with Arevalillo for an 8-4 victory over a Ball State squad.
Singles and doubles finals will be played Sunday beginning at 8:30 am.
