QUEENS, NY – The State University of New York, Buffalo men's tennis team concluded USTA/ITA Northeast Regional competition at the National Tennis Center Sunday as the Bulls suffered losses in the singles and doubles round of 16.
Junior Pablo Alvarez was edged by Columbia's Dragos Ignat in singles play, 6-4, 6-3. He teamed with senior Damien David in doubles action. The duo fell 8-7 (3) to Penn's Jeremy Court and Nicolas Podesta.
"We are proud of the performances of Sebastian (Ionescu), Pablo (Alvarez) and Damien (David) this weekend," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We aren't quite at the level of the top-tier schools in this region, but we are proving that we can contend with anyone in the country. With three legitimate top 25 schools in the northeast, we have to keep working diligently to get to there.
"We will get back to work this week and get prepared for our last tournament in Kalamazoo Halloween weekend."
The Bulls travel to Western Michigan for the Mid-American Conference Singles/Doubles Championship Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
