PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team completed play at the Penn Invite on Sunday with a doubles semifinal loss and a pair of defeats in the consolation championships.
In the A flight doubles semifinal, the UB combo of Damien David and Ivan Vereshchaga dropped an 8-1 decision to the Princeton duo of Dan Davies and Zack McCourt.
UB's two consolation singles finalists were also defeated on Sunday. In the Ben Franklin flight consolation final, Jason Simon fell to Norfolk State's Daniel Grauel, 6-3, 6-4, while Yevgeniy Jason Shkodnik was defeated by Delaware's Evan Andrews, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 in the Red flight consolation final.
Following Sunday's play, head coach Lee Nickell summed up his team's play during the fall campaign. "We made some great strides in the past few weeks with our games and even though we didn't win as much as we'd like, everyone is playing better and we are on the right path for success," said Nickell.
