BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo women's soccer team has announced that it will face the Western New York Flash of the Women's Professional Soccer League in an exhibition match March 8 at Sahlen's Sports Park in Elma, NY.
The match will offer fans of the Bulls to not only support the Bulls, but also enjoy the skills of some of the best players in the country and the world. The Flash features numerous players from overseas including arguably the best female player in the world, five time FIFA World Player of the year, Marta.
A member of the Brazilian National Team, Marta has won two Olympic silver medals and the Golden Ball and Golden Boot in the 2007 Women's World Cup. The 25-year-old forward came to the Flash from FC Gold Pride, a WPS team that recently folded. In her career in the WPS, Marta has won two Golden Boot and MVP awards (2009, 2010) and last season won the WPS Championship with the Gold Pride.
Recently, the Flash also added collegiate standout Alex Morgan with the first overall pick in the 2011 WPS Draft.
The Flash joined WPS as an expansion club in September after winning the W-League Championship as the Buffalo Flash in July. The Flash will play all WPS home games at Marina Auto Stadium in Rochester NY. The Flash opens its season at Boston on April 17.
The Bulls return four of its top five goal scorers from last season's squad as well as its top two goalkeepers. Current Buffalo assistant coach Kimberly Brandao is a former member of the W-League's Buffalo Flash. Match time is set for 4 pm.
