BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's tennis seniors Marcelo Mazzetto and Mitch Zenaty will head into the spring dual meet season as the seventh-ranked doubles duo in the Northeast region as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its first rankings of the 2011 season.
Mazzetto and Zenaty finished the 2010 fall tournament season with a 5-2 record as a duo. The pair scored three wins at October's ITA Northeast Regionals in New Haven advancing to the fourth round. Among their triumphs at the regional meet was a 9-8 third round win over Yale's Marc Powers and Daniel Hoffman. Powers is ranked fourth and Hoffman fifth among singles players in the regional rankings. Mazzetto and Zenaty fell in the fourth round to the third-ranked duo in the region, Harvard's Jonathan Pearlman and Christo Schultz.
"I am really happy that our senior leaders got some recognition this fall," said head coach Lee Nickell. "They played well in regionals when it counted, and they plan on keeping up that level throughout the spring."
The Bulls, the defending Mid-American Conference regular season champions, open the spring season on Saturday with matches in Rhode Island against Brown and Bryant.
