Women''s soccer head coach Shawn Burke announced the signing of 9-year old Sarah Reid to a National Letter of Intent on September 8, 2016. Reid was paired up with the UB women''s soccer program through a program called Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that helps children forget about their illness and become part of something bigger, a team of friends.
Reid, a 9-year old from Clearance, NY, was diagnosed at birth with Spina Bifida, and had her first surgery at just two days old. She was in the neo-natal unit for 70 days after birth and is paralyzed from the waist down but can use leg braces and crutches to move around.
Sarah just turned 9 years old and is going into 4th grade at Ledgeview Elementary. She lives in Clarence, NY with her parents, Lori and Matthew, and her 11-year old brother William. According to Sarah, her favorite color is pink-in all shades and her favorite athlete is Simone Biles. She loves Selena Gomez- but this changes on a daily basis because she loves music. She enjoys swimming, ice skating, playing tennis and loves being a Girl Scout. Sarah likes to paint her nails, do arts and crafts and enjoys playing games like Uno and Life. Her favorite food is cheese ravioli, she loves the show Liv and Maddie and her favorite sports team is the Buffalo Sabres.
Sarah is super excited to become a part of the UB women''s soccer team and with all that she has been through and continues to fight through, she will be a huge inspiration to her new teammates.
