
Four Bulls Earn Softball Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the Academic All-MAC Softball honors on Wednesday afternoon. A total of four Bulls made this year's list. This marks the seventh consecutive year that at least four Bulls earned this honor.
Leading the way for Buffalo was junior first baseman Abbey Nagel as this was her second Academic All-MAC honor. Making their Academic All-MAC debuts were juniors Mia Mitchell and Avelyn Van Heyst, as well as sophomore Reagan Terwilliger.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Student-athletes in their first year of competition are not eligible.
Nagel, a business administration major with a 3.598 GPA, earned Second-Team All-MAC honors after her 2025 campaign. Nagel led the Bulls with 53 hits, good for 15th in the MAC. She finished the conference season top-10 in home runs (7), RBIs (25), total bases (57) and slugging percentage (.663). The junior led the team with 9 home runs and 11 doubles to go with her .346 batting average. Nagel had a two-home run day against the Toledo Rockets (April 19) as she became the 14th Bull to go hard twice in a game. The first baseman tallied 126 putouts in conference play, good for seventh.
A health and human services major holding a 3.516 GPA, Terwilliger had a terrific sophomore campaign for the Bulls. Terwilliger became the first Bull since 2021 to earn First-Team recognition. She led the Bulls with 5 triples and 17 stolen bases on the year. Terwilliger's 17 stolen bases were fourth in the conference. Her 5 triples lead the conference and tied the program record for most triples in a season. She finished the regular season 29th in the nation for most triples. It's also tied for fifth in program history for most triples in a career. Her 42 hits on the year were the third-most on the team as her 32 runs scored were second. With a .378 batting average in conference play was 18th in the MAC. The Gilbert, Ariz. native had 11 multi-hit performances on the season. Defensively, she finished with 109 put outs.
Mitchell, a junior outfielder and communications major, posted a 3.219 GPA. On the season, she hit a career-high .290 as she started in 37 games for the Bulls. Tallying 36 hits, she added seven doubles, a pair of triples and three home runs. Against North Dakota (Feb. 28), Mitchell recorded a season-high four hits and two stolen bases. In their series at Western Michigan (April 4-5), she scored three runs while hitting in two Bulls. Defensively, she recorded six putouts against App State (Feb. 22).
Van Heyst appeared in 45 games with 39 starts for the Bulls as she held a 3.209 GPA. She posted a .298 on base percentage as she had 19 walks and 18 hits. Against Bowling Green (March 15), she recorded season-high marks in hits (2), runs scored (3) and stolen bases (1). Against Toledo (April 20), the infielder recorded a season-high six putouts.
