Bulls Continue Indoor Championship Preparation at Two Meets This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field team is competing in two meets this weekend just two weeks out from Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships.
The Bulls will send select student-athletes from their distance programs to Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational, one of the nation's premier meets of the indoor season. Athletes must meet the qualifying marks in their event to compete. The Bulls will also send athletes to the SPIRE Indoor Games on Saturday, another opportunity to gain competition experience ahead of conference championships.
DAVID HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL
The meet at Boston University is separated into two days, with the men competing on Friday beginning at 9 am and the women on Saturday at 9 am.
Vincent Guaresimo and Aidan Norris are scheduled to participate in the men's mile. Both freshmen were under ten seconds shy of reaching the all-time program ranks in their season-best performances. Gauresimo finished the mile in 4:18.69 at the Penn State National Open, as Norris finished in 4:17.88 at the Akron Haynes Lancaster Open.
Luke Stoeffler and freshman Collin Stafford are expected to compete in the men's 3,000-meter run. Stafford had the Bulls' fastest 3,000-meter time of the season at Penn State (8:22.61), falling just over a second shy of reaching the program's all-time ranks (8:21.39). Stoeffler has the second-fastest time in the event (8:31.23) on the Buffalo roster this season. The junior's personal record of 8:19.52 ranks sixth all-time in indoor program history.
Matt Gensel is slated to participate in the men's 5,000-meter run. The junior will be making his indoor season debut. Gensel's personal record indoor time in the event is 15:01.23.
On Saturday the Buffalo women are expected to compete in seven events.
Uma Bhattacharjee is scheduled to participate in both the women's 60-meter dash and the long jump. Bhattacharjee's personal best 60-meter time of 7.83 seconds is the fastest on the Bulls' roster this season. The sophomore's time was just a tenth of a second shy of the all-time UB indoor top ten (7.73). Bhattacharjee also made her event debut earlier this season in the long jump at Akron's Al Campbell Invite, winning the event with a mark of 5.50 meters. The sophomore's performance ranks second on the Bulls roster this season.
Johanna Kleiner and Allison Newton are expected to compete in the women's 800-meter. The two are tied to have the best time on the Bulls roster this season (2:16.19), just four seconds shy of reaching the all-time program ranks (2:12.84).
Newton is also expected to participate in the women's mile, posting the Bulls' fastest time in the event this season (5:05.08), less than five seconds shy of the all-time program ranks (5:00.24).
Lacey Danilovitz is scheduled to participate in the women's 3,000-meter for the Bulls. The sophomore has the team's fastest time this season (10:03.93). Danilovitz chases the tenth-ranked time in program history (9:50.26) on Saturday.

SPIRE INDOOR GAMES
The SPIRE Indoor Games will take place throughout the day on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 am.
Tal Hamel is expected to compete in the men's 200-meter. The senior set a new personal record of 21.37 in the event earlier this season to rank second all-time in UB indoor history. Hamel is chasing the school record time of 21.25, set by Josh Gali in 2017. The senior's personal best ranks atop in the MAC this season.
Hamel is also chasing Gali's school record (46.92) in the 400-meter. Hamel set a personal best time of 47.77 at the SPIRE Midwest Invite to rank fourth all-time in UB indoor history. Hamel is scheduled to compete in the 400-meter at SPIRE again. The senior's personal record is third in the conference this season.
The Bulls have had success in both the men's and women's high jump this season and look to continue that at SPIRE.
On the men's side, freshman Ryan Cardichon set a personal record mark of 2.07 meters at the Al Campbell Invite. The mark ranks sixth all-time in indoor program history. Cardichon's personal best ranks fourth in the conference this season. Calvin Finger had a season-best mark of 1.95 meters at the SPIRE Midwest Invite. Finger's performance is the 11th-best in the MAC for the indoor season.
The Buffalo women have reached the weekly national ranks for the high jump a few times this season, having five student-athletes reach 1.70 meters or higher. Freshman Akuot Kuany leads the Bulls' roster with a personal best mark of 1.75 meters, tied to rank fourth all-time in UB indoor history and second in the conference this season. School record holder Zahra Amos has competed only twice this season in the event, tying Kuany's mark of 1.75 meters. Amos won the event at MAC Indoor Championships in 2024 with a mark of 1.80 meters to tie her school record. Stella Kapp will round out Buffalo's competitors in the high jump at SPIRE this Saturday, posting a personal record mark of 1.73 meters at Penn State to rank fifth all-time in UB indoor history and eighth in the conference this season.
Kara Moran is scheduled to continue her sophomore campaign in the triple jump. Moran broke her indoor personal record twice this season, most recently at the SPIRE Midwest Invite with a mark of 12.07 meters to rank seventh in UB indoor history and in the conference.
