Bulls’ Distance Runners Rewrite The Record Book at Boston University

BOSTON – The University at Buffalo track and field program sent select distance runners to compete in the 2025 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The two-day meet is one of the nation's premier indoor competitions, with only qualified student-athletes participating.
The Bulls brought their best against the national competition, with four new personal best performances reaching the all-time UB indoor ranks.
FRIDAY
Aidan Norris started the meet on a strong note for the Bulls, posting a new personal record mile time of 4:11.47, the fastest by a freshman in UB indoor history. Norris' time joins the all-time UB indoor ranks, taking ninth on the list. Vincent Guaresimo ran a personal record of 4:14.15 in the men's mile too, falling just over two seconds shy of reaching all-time UB indoor ranks (4:11.74).
Norris and Guaresimo set the tone for what was to come for the Bulls.
Luke Stoeffler (8:13.08) and Collin Stafford (8:15.41) posted new personal record times in the men's 3,000-meter to rise the indoor program ranks. Stoeffler's time broke his previous personal record (8:19.52) by over six seconds, moving to fourth all-time. Stafford's time set a new UB freshman record in the 3,000-meter, taking fifth all-time in program indoor history.
Matt Gensel rounded out the historic night for the Bulls, joining the all-time UB indoor ranks in the 5,000-meter. Gensel's time of 14:33.44 rose to ninth all-time in the event and ranks sixth in the Mid-American Conference this season.
SATURDAY
The Buffalo women entered day two of the competition looking to build on the men's momentum from the night before.
Stephney Pryce posted a new season best time of 59.60 in the women's 400-meter dash. The sophomore's previous best was 59.75 set at the SPIRE Midwest Invite.
Allison Newton set a new personal record 800-meter time of 2:14.97. The senior beat her previous best of 2:15.71, falling just shy of the UB all-time indoor ranks in the events (2:12.84). Johanna Kleiner also competed in the event, finishing with a time of 2:18.65.
The Buffalo women set a new season-best 4x400 meter time. The Bulls' team of Pryce, Sina Ehrhardt, Newton and Kleiner finished with a time of 3:55.43.
Bronagh Cassidy set a new personal record in the mile with a time of 5:02.86. Cassidy's time is the fastest on the women's roster this season and fell just shy of the all-time UB indoor ranks (5:00.24).
Uma Bhattacharjee competed in the preliminary round of the women's 60-meter, placing 17th of 59 sprinters. The sophomore missed the qualifying mark of 7.81. Bhattacharjee also participated in the women's long jump, taking ninth with a mark of 5.42 meters.
Lacey Danilovitz rounded out Buffalo's competitors with a time of 10:26.12 in the 3,000-meter.
