Junior (2024-25): Earned a silver medal in the 10,000-meter at MAC Outdoor Championships with a time of 31:37.44...also finished seventh in the outdoor 5,000-meter with a time of 15:17.99...finished fourth at MAC Indoor Championships in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14:59.88...set a new personal record 10,000-meter time of 29:49.34 at the Raleigh Relays to rise to fourth in UB outdoor history...recorded a personal best 5,000-meter time of 14:27.35 at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic to rank 10th in UB outdoor history...set a new indoor personal record of 14:33.44 at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invite to take the ninth spot in UB indoor history.
Sophomore (2023 - 24): Earned Academic All-MAC honors for the outdoor season...competed at MAC Outdoor Championships, earning a bronze medal in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:10.96 ...set a new personal record in the 10,000-meter at the Bison Outdoor Classic (30:10.96) that ranks seventh all-time in UB outdoor history...ran a new personal best 5,000-meter time at the Geneseo Invitational, finishing with a time of 14:38.80...set a collegiate best indoor 3,000-meter time of 8:49.78 at the SPIRE Mid-West Invitational.
Freshman (2022 - 23): Competed at the MAC XC Championships and the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships...Ran a personal best 1,500-meter time at Geneseo.
High School: Competed on the second place team at the 2022 New Balance National Indoors 4xMile Relay and the seventh place team at the 2022 New Balance National Outdoors 4xMile Relay... placed sixth overall at the 2021 Nike Cross Nationals New York Regional.
Personal: Parents are James and Audra Gensel...has one sister, Megan...chose UB for the wide variety of programs, large and positive community and the cross country team felt like a great fit...inspired by his personal drive to constantly improve himself...favorite athlete is Molly Huddle, an Olympian runner from his hometown who he's looked up to...in his free time he likes to do programming, listen and play music, and play video games...favorite TV shows and movies are Hereditary, Pulp Fiction, Good Time, Bojack Horseman...like a true distance runner, he can’t live without spaghetti and meatballs.
