
Kapp & Parks To Compete at NCAA East First Rounds This Week

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field team is sending Stella Kapp and Michael Parks to represent the program at the NCAA East First Rounds, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Parks and Kapp qualified for the regional competition by ranking inside the top 50 athletes in their event in the NCAA East region.
Michael Parks is scheduled to compete in the first round of the 110-meter hurdles on Wednesday, May 27th, at 6 p.m. The top 24 athletes in the event will then advance to the quarterfinals, scheduled for Friday, May 29th, at 6:15 p.m. The top 12 athletes from the quarterfinals will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, beginning on Wednesday, June 10th.
Parks has had a historic season in the 110-meter hurdles for the Bulls, surpassing the program's previous school record of 13.96 seconds on four occasions. The senior broke the record with a time of 13.95 seconds at Geneseo. He posted a time of 13.72 seconds a week later at Cornell to set a new program record and rank 22nd in the NCAA East. Parks went below the 13.80-second barrier at two more meets, once at UB's Alumni Invite (13.79) and when he secured the MAC title in the event at Ball State (13.78). The senior's first-place time of 13.78 seconds at conference championships was over four-tenths of a second faster than the second-place finisher (14.23).
Stella Kapp is slated to compete in the high jump on Saturday, May 30th, at 2 p.m. The top 12 athletes from the NCAA East First Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships. Kapp set a new outdoor personal best of 1.76 meters at the UB Alumni Invite this season, ranking fifth in program history and 33rd in the NCAA East. Kapp earned a silver medal at the MAC Outdoor Championships with a jump of 1.74 meters. The sophomore was named All-MAC Second Team.
