Bulls Open Season with Sunday Sweep

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened the 2024 fall campaign with a pair of victories, defeating St. Bonaventure 6-1 before sweeping Niagara 7-0 at the UB Tennis Courts on Sunday.
In the first match of the day, the Bonnies took the doubles point with a win at second doubles and a tiebreak victory at the first position. Deanne Choo and Blanca Berges won 6-3 at the third position.
The Bulls then swept singles action as freshman Maria Glowacka looked great in her first match in the blue and white, winning 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles and fellow freshman Blanca Berges also cruised to a victory in her first collegiate match, winning 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles to put UB up 2-1.
Later, Jagmeet Kaur won 7-6, 6-1 at first singles and Esmee Andresen battled back from a dropped first set to earn a 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-5 victory at the second position. Sophomore Julia Laspro earned the first win of her collegiate career with a 6-2, 7-5 win at fifth singles and Liv Roestel completed the singles sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the third position.
In the night match against Niagara, the Bulls swept the doubles point as Choo and Berges cruised to a 6-0 win at third singles, Roestel and Andresen won 6-1 at the second position and Kaur and Glowacka followed with a 6-3 win at third.
The Bulls swept singles action once again as Andresen started things off with a 6-3, 6-0 win at second singles and Berges cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the fifth position. Laspro blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles and Kaur battled to a 7-5, 6-2 win at the first position. Glowack then won 6-3, 6-3 at third singles and Roestel finished it off with a 6-2, 7-5 win at the fourth position.
Buffalo will have some time off before returning to action on Saturday, October 5 with a doubleheader against Binghamton and Saint Francis.
