
Trio of Bulls Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

BUFFALO, NY – Three University at Buffalo women's tennis student athletes have been named to the 2024 All-MAC Academic Team, the Mid-American Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. A total of 32 student-athletes were named to this year's squad.
Seniors Ambre Amat and Mariana Carvajal Torres earn the honor for the third straight season while sophomore Deanne Choo was named to the squad for the first time in her career.
Amat, who owns a 3.778 GPA and will graduate with a degree in environmental engineering, posted a 16-14 singles record and was named MAC Singles Player of the Week on March 5 after notching back-to-back wins over Cleveland State and Cornell. She recorded a team-best 19-11 doubles mark, including an impressive 17-11 record with Andresen with whom she earned two MAC Doubles of the Week honors. Amat finished her career tied for third all-time in program history with 81 singles wins while also ranking seventh with 71 doubles victories.
Carvajal Torres, who owns a 3.899 GPA and will graduate with a degree in communication, went 12-9 in singles action, primarily at the fifth and sixth positions. She also recorded an 8-1 doubles mark.
An exercise science major with a 3.51 GPA, went 10-5 in singles action, primarily at the sixth position. She recorded a 13-6 doubles record, including an 8-4 mark with partner Jagmeet Kaur, primarily at the third position.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year student and transfers in their first year are not eligible.
