Bulls Open Season with Saturday Sweep

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened the 2023 fall campaign on Saturday with a pair of victories, sweeping Niagara 7-0 before defeating St. Bonaventure 6-1 at the UB Tennis Courts.
In the first match against the Purple Eagles, the Bulls won the doubles point as Jagmeet Kaur and Azra Deniz Comlek won 6-2 at first doubles and Ambre Amat and Esmee Andresen earned a hard-fought 7-5 victory at second doubles.
UB carried that strong play into singles actions where they won five of six matches in straight sets. Andersen dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Amat won 6-0, 6-2 at third singles and Kaur picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the first position. Lolina Schietekat Sedas cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles and Comlek battled to a 6-4, 6-2 win at second singles. Senior Mariana Carvajal Torres completed the sweep, battling back for a 7-6(4), 4-6, 10-6 win at sixth singles.
In the afternoon match against the Bonnies, the Bulls won all three doubles contests. Kaur and Comlek 6-4 at first doubles. Amat and Andresen cruised to a 6-0 win at second doubles and Carvajal Torres and Laura Koralnik followed with a 6-3 win at the third position.
In singles action, Andresen continued her stellar play as she won 6-1, 6-2 at fourth singles. Amat won 6-3, 6-4 at third singles and Koralnik picked up the first singles win of her UB career with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the sixth position. Kaur won 6-1, 7-5 at first singles and Carvajal Torres concluded play with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth position.
The Bulls return to action at the ITA Regionals, hosted by Harvard, October 6-8.
