MUNCIE, IN - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team saw their 2022-23 season come to a close on Saturday as the third-seeded Bulls lost 4-0 to the hosts Ball State in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals.
The Cardinals took the first point of the match with wins at second and third doubles. Seniors Pia Schwarz and Azra Deniz Comlek won 6-0 at first doubles.
In singles action, the Cardinals took a 2-0 advantage with a straight sets victory at the third position, followed by a victory at six. Ball State then clinched the match at first singles. The Bulls were battling in the remaining matches as Comlek won her first set 6-3 and both Ambre Amat and Gabriella Akopyan were fighting hard in their second sets.
"Despite the result today I am so proud of this team and all the accomplishments they achieved this year," said head coach Kristen (Ortman) Maines. "The leadership of our seniors and fifth year student-athletes was an integral part of our success. They put the team before themselves, led by example and embodied the core values of the Buffalo tennis culture. I have no doubt this team will come back stronger next year and work hard to get back to the championship match."
The Bulls finished the season with a 20-8 overall record, a new single-season record.
