Bulls Face Off Against Ball State at MAC Championships

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team heads to Muncie, Indiana this weekend for the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Bulls enter the conference tournament as the number three seed and will take on the hosts, number two seed Ball State, in the second semifinal match of the day on Saturday at 2pm. Top-seeded Toledo will face number four seed Miami (OH) in the first semifinal match of the day at 10am.
Saturday's semifinal winners will play for the conference championship on Sunday at 1pm, with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Buffalo ended the regular season with a 20-7 overall record and a 6-4 mark in league play. The 20 wins is a new single-season program record, besting the previous mark of 17 which was achieved three times.
UB has presented a balanced attack and shown great depth in singles action with seven players recording double-digit win totals on the season, led by senior Ambre Amat who has recorded a career-high 24 wins. Fifth year Basak Akbas and junior Mariana Carvajal Torres have recorded 18 win and Azra Deniz Comlek has 17. In doubles play, four Buffalo pairings have recorded nine wins on the season.
The defending MAC champion Ball State Cardinals enter the tournament a 20-3 overall record and a 9-1 mark in league play. They swept the final weekend of regular season play with a 5-2 win over Eastern Michigan, followed by a 4-3 victory over Miami (OH). Five Cardinals have recorded double-digit singles wins on the year, led by Amy Kaplan who has recorded 14 wins while Jessica Braun and Maria Polishchuk have 13. The duo of Braun and Emily Desai have led Ball State in doubles action, recording 10 victories.
