Bulls Conclude Competition at Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The University at Buffalo track and field team completed the final day of competition at the annual Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on Sunday.
The field events were highlighted by the women's high Jump. Senior Zaria Fuller cleared a season's best height of 5'8.00", tying for 1st place, a mark that ranks 2nd in the MAC and ties for 38th in the NCAA East Region. Zahra Amos placed 5th with a season's best 5'6". In the men's high jump, sophomore Calvin Finger jumped a height of 6'4", placing 9th of 29 competitors.
The throwing events started with the women's hammer throw. Junior Imahni Sinclair placed 2nd in 177-7, a season's best mark that moves her to 3rd in the MAC. In the Men's Shot Put, Jonathan Surdej capped his 6-throw series with a best throw of 5'0.75", placing 2nd overall.
In the women's Pole Vault, senior Violet Drinkwater cleared her best height of the season at 10'11.75", placing 12th of 33 competitors. Kaylah Britt took 2nd place in the Women's Triple Jump with a season's best distance of 40'3.25", ranking 6th in the MAC, and teammate Emily Tait had a season's best of 38'7.75", ranking 12th in the conference.
On the track, the day started with the women's 3000-meters and freshman Bronagh Cassidy running a collegiate personal best of 10:34.17, placing 17th of 67 competitors. In the Women's 800-meters, sophomore transfer Johanna Kleiner made her collegiate debut in 2:18.57. In the men's 800-meters, freshman Gabe Watson came back from his big PR in the 1500-meters Saturday night to run 1:53.92, his 2nd best time ever. Teammate Noah Brightman ran 1:54.58, and Andrew Core made his collegiate 800-meter debut running 1:57.34 for a new personal best mark.
Christina Wende placed 6th in the women's 100-meter hurdles in 14.58 after her record setting Saturday. Chineme Ononiwu claimed 2nd in the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.31. Freshman Safiya Dodoo ran just off her personal best mark in the 400-meters in 59.51, while freshman Julian Smith ran a personal best time of 49.14.
Several Bulls showed out in the 100-meters. On the women's side, senior Travasia Singletary ran her 2nd best time of 12.37, placing 25th of 91 competitors. In the men's 100-meters, the Bulls placed 3 in the top 12 of 112 competitors, with Jean Desir running a personal best of 10.68, placing 9th, Jermaine Ewers running a season's best of 10.70, and Jaron Meyer smashing his previous personal best with a time of 10.75, placing 12th. The three men rank 5th, 6th, and 9th respectively in the MAC.
The men's 200-meters capped off the outstanding day for the Bulls with more personal best marks. Sophomore Tal Hamel ran a personal best of 21.62 placing 8th of 97 competitors and now ranks 5th in the MAC. Jaron Meyer came through with a season's best 21.90, and Jean Desir finished in 21.98, ranking 11th and 12th in the MAC respectively.
"The Bucknell Bison Classic provides outstanding competition every year, and this year was no exception," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "In the Combined Events and field events, Distance Carnival on Saturday night, and the sprint events on Sunday, our team competed tough and saw several big jumps in performances moving up the MAC and NCAA rankings. With less than three weeks to the MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Akron, OH, the team is moving in the right direction."
