IRVING, TX – Two former and one current University at Buffalo football players have been named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society – comprised of college football players who maintained a cumulative 3.2 or better grade point average throughout their college career. Damian Jackson, Robbie Mangas and Alex McNulty were all named, marking the 11th time in the last 12 years a UB player has made the prestigious list.
In order to be eligible for membership into the honor society, a player must be a senior who will graduate this spring/summer and just completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2022 or a graduated player, who has been out of high school at least three years. The player must have attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale) and been a starter or significant contributor throughout the 2022 season.
Jackson, a graduate student, appeared in 13 games and made nine starts at defensive end. He had 27 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He was a health and human services major with a 3.75 grade point average.
Also a graduate student, Mangas had a 4.0 grade point average as an educational studies major. He appeared in 13 games and started eight at tight end. He had 16 catches for 141 yards on the season.
McNulty, the 2022 MAC Special Teams Player of the Year, has also been a stalwart in the classroom for the Bulls. The UB kicker is a four-time Academic All-MAC selection and in November was named to the Academic All-District Team and was a semifinalist for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy.
An elite group of 1,734 players from 328 schools qualified for membership in 2023, setting a new record for the number of members in a single year during the program's 17-year history. The initiative has now honored 16,370 student-athletes since its inception. Click here for the 2023 list of members.
