BUFFALO, NY – Nearly 600 high school football players sojourned to Broadview Stadium on Saturday for the football program's Mega Camp. The annual event gave college football prospects the opportunity to get hands-on instruction by coaches from not only the UB staff but several other college programs.
All told, 559 campers from 18 different states and Canada participated. This year, 187 of the campers were from north of the border. There were 72 guest coaches from 31 different college programs in attendance.
The camp gave prospects the opportunity to learn fundamentals such as tackling, run blocking and pass catching from coaches as well as current UB players.
It was another glowing example of how the UB football program continues to build relationships with prospective student-athletes from Western New York and surrounding areas and offers them the opportunity to experience the UB campus and facilities.
"Summer camps like this one are excellent opportunities for us to get high school prospects on campus and evaluate them in person," Head Coach Pete Lembo said. "However, there is also secondary benefits in terms of exposure for the entire University, bringing visitors to Western New York and making a significant economic impact on the area on what otherwise would be a quiet weekend in June."
The UB football program will continue to run camps throughout June and July. Check the camps page to learn more.
