BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo men's basketball Head Coach George Halcovage III announced the retention of Jack Fitzpatrick to his staff on Wednesday afternoon. This is Halcovage's fourth hire as Calvin Cage, Tim Saunders, and Hamlet Tibbs were announced last week.
Fitzpatrick has been with the Bulls the last four seasons as the special assistant to the head coach and video coordinator for the UB men's basketball team. In the 2020-21 season he was part of a staff that helped guide the Bulls to an appearance in the MAC Championship game and just the second NIT appearance in school history.
In his role, Fitzpatrick oversees all video breakdown and film exchange, especially in relation to scouting & player development. He is also responsible for the recruiting database and the creation of recruiting materials, while assisting the coaching staff with day-to-day operations.
"Jack is an outstanding young coach who brings a great basketball IQ and work ethic to our staff," stated Head Coach George Halcovage III. "We are excited to have him remain here with us at UB. Go Bulls!"
He played his college ball at Division II Emmanuel College in Georgia where he was a three-year captain and the valedictorian at the school. During his tenure with the Lions, he went 95-37 and helped guide EC to its first NCAA Tournament berth in school history.
Fitzpatrick's father, John Fitzpatrick, was an assistant coach at the Division I level for over 30 years, highlighted by a stint at the U.S. Naval Academy where he coached David Robinson during their elite eight run. He also made several other coaching stops including Houston, Virginia, George Washington, and Ball State to name a few.
