DAYTON, OH – Blue Collar U, the University at Buffalo men's basketball alumni team, is just one win shy of the $1 million prize, as the group will play in the TBT Championship game on Tuesday night in Dayton, OH.
Blue Collar U has won five games so far in this year's tournament, including claiming the Syracuse regional last week. Last season, Blue Collar U reached the semifinals of the TBT, putting together one of the best two-year stretches in TBT history.
Blue Collar U opened the tournament with a 91-64 win over NG Saints and then added a hard-fought comeback win over Friday Beers, 78-75, in the round of 32. An 83-62 victory over The Nerd Team sent Blue Collar U to Dayton for the Quarterfinals.
The group defeated Team Heartfire 74-66 in the quarterfinals and then faced Red Scare on Saturday night, a Dayton alumni team, playing in front of their home crowd. A 74-69 victory for Blue Collar U set up Tuesday night's championship game against Americana for Autism.
Four former Bulls are averaging in double figures led by 15.2 points per game from CJ Massinburg and Wes Clark. Nick Perkins is averaging 12.6 points over the first five games, while Blake Hamilton is adding 10.4.
The game against Americana for Autism will pit two teams that are playing in just their second TBT and also two programs, who are playing for more than just the $1 million prize. Blue Collar U has honored the victims of the mass shooting in Buffalo in May by wearing their names on the back of their uniforms, while Blue Collar U's opponent plays with the goal of increasing autism awareness.
Tickets are still available for Tuesday night's championship game, which will take place at 8pm at the University of Dayton Arena.
