CLEVELAND, OH – University at Buffalo sophomore center David Skogman was named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, the Mid-American Conference announced on Wednesday.
An accounting major with a 3.552 GPA, Skogman had career highs of 20 points and 15 rebounds as the Bulls defeated Bowling Green on Wednesday. More impressive is that Skogman did not miss a shot as he was perfect from the floor (6-6), the three-point line (2-2) and the free throw line (6-6). Skogman is only the second player in the nation this year to score at least 20 points without missing a shot from the floor. Since 2010, Skogman is the only player in the NCAA has been perfect from the field, the three point line, and the free throw line, while recording 20 points and at least 15 boards.
Not included in the nomination, but Skogman kept it going on Tuesday evening as he notched his second straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds against Western Michigan. The Waukesha, WI native is now averaging 7.1 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per contest on the year and 11.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game in conference play.
The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
