BUFFALO, NY – The new look Bulls added another piece to the puzzle as men's basketball head coach Jim Whitesell added Fordham transfer Tyrone "Ty" Perry for the upcoming season.
Perry is a 6-3 guard who hails from Boston, MA. He had his best season with the Rams as a sophomore in 2019-20 when he played in 30 games, making 16 starts. He averaged 7.5 points per game, shooting just over 37% from behind the arc. During that year he scored a season-high 18 points against Coppin State, 17 points against Duquesne, and 16 points against St. Bonaventure.
This past season, Fordham played in just 14 games due to COVID-19 and Perry saw action in 11 of those contests, also averaging 7.5 points.
Prior to joining Fordham, Perry played at Woodstock Academy in 2017-18 for head coach Nick DeFeo. He helped the Centaurs, who were ranked as high as No. 2 in the country among prep school basketball programs, to a 35-5 record. Perry led Woodstock Academy to the national prep championship tournament semifinal game where the fourth-seeded Centaurs lost to top-seeded Putnam Science Academy in overtime, 80-72, despite 14 points from Perry.
Before joining Woodstock Academy, Perry played in Brighton High School in Brighton, MA where he earned Boston Herald All-Scholastic honors.
"Ty is a great three-point shooter that will help stretch the defense," said Whitesell. "He brings collegiate experience having played in the Atlantic 10 and he is also very strong on the defensive side of the ball."
Perry becomes the second Atlantic 10 transfer to join the Bulls for the upcoming season, as he will now team up with George Washington transfer, Maceo Jack. Overall, he is the sixth new player for UB next season.
