BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's basketball program has been selected to play in the 2020 Paradise Jam, tournament organizers announced on Friday afternoon. In its 21st season, the Paradise Jam will take place from November 20-23, 2020 at the University of the Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas.
Buffalo will join Bradley, Cleveland State, Colorado State, Florida International, Long Beach State, St. Bonaventure, and Weber State as the participants in the 21st annual Paradise Jam.
"We're so excited for another year of the Paradise Jam with a strong field of men's teams from all over the country," said Tournament Director Jennifer Ashby. "Providing high-quality basketball to the U.S. Virgin Islands every year is something we strive to do, and we have no doubt this group of men's teams will do just that."
Buffalo has played a number of these programs in past tournaments. UB met Cleveland State in 2006 in the America's Youth Classic, they played Colorado State in the 2008 Rainbow Classic in Hawaii, and Buffalo met Weber State in the 2016 Great Alaska Shootout.
Buffalo is 1-1 all-time against Florida International and 6-9 against St. Bonaventure. UB has never met Bradley or Long Beach State.
"This is another outstanding opportunity for our student-athletes to play in a first-class tournament and for us to represent the University at Buffalo on a global stage," said head coach Jim Whitesell. "We look to give our players the chance to play in the best tournaments in the country and we believe the Paradise Jam is up there with the best of them."
The Sports & Fitness Center on the University of the Virgin Islands campus has been home to the Paradise Jam since its construction in 2001. The 3,000-seat venue features four locker rooms, air conditioning, a custom hardwood floor, a training room, concessions, VIP lounge, media workroom, and ethernet connectivity. Recognized as one of the best facilities of its kind in the Caribbean, the Sports & Fitness Center regularly reaches standing-room capacity throughout the Paradise Jam tournament.
Game times and matchups for the 2020 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam will be announced in the spring, following the conclusion of the 2019-20 basketball season. For more information about the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, visit www.paradisejam.com.
