
Women's Tennis Sweeps MAC Player Of The Week Awards

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team swept the MAC Player of the Week awards, the conference office announced on Thursday morning. For the second time this season sophomore Tanja Stojanovska was named Singles Player of the Week, while Stojanovska and senior Dayana Agasieva were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week.
Stojanovska went a perfect 4-0 this weekend as she swept her matches at first singles and first doubles. On Friday at Miami, Stojanovska went on to win easily at first singles, 6-0, 6-2 and on Sunday against league-leading Ball State, Stojanovska overcame a first set loss as she defeated Carmen Blanco, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles action, Stojanovska teamed up with Agasieva, who was celebrating her Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. The duo went a perfect 2-0 in doubles play this week as they began on Friday at Miami with a 6-4 win at first doubles. They then turned around and defeated Ball State, who was undefeated in conference play prior to the match, by a margin of 6-2 at first doubles.
"I am very proud of how Tanja competed this past weekend and receiving both MAC Single and Doubles Player of the Week is well deserved," said head coach Kristen Maines. "Dayana has really stepped up her game in doubles and it was great to see her play some of her best tennis on the weekend that she was being honored as our captain and lone senior. Her and Tanja played two very good doubles teams and they continue to improve with every match they play."
Stojanovska improved to 21-7 in singles play this season, including 12-4 at first singles, while her and Agasieva remained a perfect 5-0 since becomes a doubles duo.
The Bulls are on the road for a pair of matches this weekend. They will play Northern Illinois tomorrow after at 1:00 pm in Toledo, OH before face Akron on Saturday at 11:30 am.
